This section contains answers to some of the most common questions
you may have about CNS or patient management software in general. Please feel
free to call us if you cannot find an answer to your question here.
Is CNS easy to use and learn?
CNS was designed with ease of use
in mind. We understand that writing patient notes is the last thing you want to
spend time doing? We also understand that complete and detailed records are
what you need in order to receive fair payment from 3rd party payers. With CNS
you will have more thorough records in less time and YES, YES, YES it is very
easy to use and learn. What do I
need to get started?
All you need is a personal computer
and the CNS software. Some vendors advertise a low price only to bombard you
with expensive "options" that really are not optional. With CNS you will
receive everything you need with our advertised price.
What about those hand held computers?
CNS does not run on hand held
computers but it will run very nicely on the new tablet PCs. CNS is designed
with one goal in mind, to save you time!! It accomplishes this with it's
graphical user interface that the hand helds cannot produce.
Is CNS a 16 bit or 32 bit
program?
CNS is written utilizing 32 bit
addressing. This is important for speed. Think of it as bigger chunks of
information moving through your computer. How easy is it to enter a patient into CNS?
Entering a patient into CNS is very
easy. Simply click on the new patient button and you will be prompted for the
needed data. All that is needed is the patient's name, id, and gender. If you
wish you can enter many optional fields including address, phone, and insurance
data as well. Auto capitalization speeds up the process for
you. How do I do a Backup of CNS ?
The backup utility that comes with
CNS is good for daily backups and creates a copy of your database on your hard
drive. The best way to make a weekly back up of CNS is to simply copy the file
called cns.gdb. We recommend placing the file on a CD-ROM and
keeping it off site. Note- CD-ROM files are usually
read-only by default. Before you can use this file in your database
you will need to remove the read-only setting. This is explained further in
database errors. Make sure you are not running CNS when you copy
the database file. Can I move the
database files back and forth to several computers ?
Copying the database file for
backups is a great idea. Moving it frequently can lead to data corruption that
may be difficult to repair. If you need to have access to CNS from several
different locations, a multi-user system is available. Also you can install CNS
on a laptop for portability. How
do I change the note so that it has my office information on it ?
Changing the master note
template is simple. Go to the menu at the top of the screen.
Data
.note
.master note. You will see the template that your notes
are created on. Change it in any way you like by highlighting and deleting
text, adding text, or changing fonts. You can also include patient variables
that are available by clicking the variables icon in the lower
right. These variables include patient name, address, etc. Changing this
templates only affects notes written from that point, not notes written prior
to the change. How do I change the
default adjusting techniques ?
CNS can be set up to automatically
assign a technique for a certain segment. This can save a lot of time when
doing a note. By default this feature is turned on. You can change the default
technique, add new ones, or turn the feature off. At the top menu, go to
Utilities
Application Setup
Tab 3. On the right side of this
tab are the techniques that are assigned to each segment and each motion unit.
The Adj. Tech button brings up the list of techniques. This list
can be modified. that can be If you click on Gonstead, and then click on one or
more of the segments in the list, that technique will be assigned to that
segment. Now when the auto adjust by default box at the bottom is
checked, the software will assume that you are using Gonstead if that segment
is selected and will write text accordingly. If the auto adjust by
default box is not checked. You can still activate the default techniques
by clicking auto adjust on the treatment screen. You can also apply
something other than the default technique on the treatment
screen. How do I customize CNS
screens and lists?
CNS can be customized in a number
of ways. You can select the Utilities...Application Setup to setup how certain
screens are displayed and with what defaults. Selecting Utilities...Spell Check
Setup will allow you to personalize your spell checker display, usage, and
dictionaries. To add or remove text from any of the lists on any of the screens
simply select the Data menu item and find the list you wish to work with. Now
you can Add or Remove items to and from the list. On lists that contain partial
sentences make sure the items you add make sense with the rest of the items.
For instance if you are adding to the Progress list and it already contains
appropriate for this problem and slow but progressive
dont add an item like expecting good progress. Thinks of it
like this Progress is and fill in the blank. If you fail to do
this then your sentences that are generated may not be grammatically correct
What are the most Common Network
Problems
The most common network problem
that we see is an incorrectly set up or changed TCP/IP address setting. This
will result in one of more of your clients not being able to connect to your
servers database. Another common install problem is failure to activate each
computer with the activation disk after install. This results in a note that
you have exceeded the limits of the demo. I am getting an error that says unknown database.
In order to get an Unknown
Database error, you have to be disconnected from your database. There are
a few common causes of this problem. CNS uses two pieces of software: the CNS
program itself, and a database program called Interbase. Interbase is always
running and if it is shut down, you get the unknown user name error. During CNS
install, this is set up to happen at boot up. If it doesnt, someone may
have removed it from the start folder. Computer tech people sometimes to this,
not knowing that CNS uses this program. A second common cause of this problem
is a read-only database file. This happens if you put your database file on a
CD-ROM to move it to another computer. CD_ROM drive usually create a read-only
file by default. Then when you go to use the database, you do not get access to
it. To fix this, fine the file cns.gdb in the CNS directory. Right
click the file, choose properties, on the first screen that you see, look at
the read only box, if it is checked, remove the check. Now you should be ready
to go. |
